Chapter Eight

It was Saturday morning, and the candlelight tour was hours away. The article on the reopening of The Seahorse Inn and the secret attic room went out that morning in the papers and online. By now, most of the postcards they sent to former guests in the guest books had been delivered, and the social media page was getting a lot more interest due to the events Liz had organized and posted days prior. Being included in the Candlelight Christmas Tour last minute was just the icing on the cake.

Everything they’d done had worked. The phone rang off the hook, and they were getting tons of e-mails. Old guests and new guests alike were excited to book their stay at the Seahorse. Even some ghost hunters took interest in booking a stay there, which made Margaret and Liz giggle.

They sat at the kitchen table enjoying a relaxing cup of coffee while looking at their laptops before the exciting but busy day got away from them.

“Did you see this? There’s close to seventy-five unread e-mails this morning. I’ve already responded to twenty-five, but the list keeps growing!” Liz said as she pointed to her screen.

“Well, we sure got what we wished for. The B&B is back, alive and well, it seems,”

Liz nodded and sighed. “I have to say, though, and I hate to be a downer, but I’m exhausted. We’ve been working night and day, and I can’t even remember what my normal life before this was like. Greg and I even got in a fight the other night about me never being home anymore. He understands that it won’t always be like this, but I think he’s just a little frustrated and stressed, especially with the boys and getting them to all of their sports practices and other activities.”

Margaret took a gulp of her coffee and set it down. “You’re right. We can’t continue on like this. It will burn us out. We have other jobs and our families. I’ve been bringing the girls over here so I’m still with them all of the time, but I definitely feel like we need to have more of our regular routines at home back. We’re going to have to hire people to help make this work for us.”

“Did someone say hire people to help?” Sarah walked into the kitchen, unraveling the large scarf around her neck.

“Yep. You wouldn’t believe it. Our e-mails and phone are blowing up today with bookings since that article came out. Thank you so much for coordinating that with your friend,” Liz said.

Margaret chimed in, “But now we’re scrambling to start looking for help. We’ve realized that we’re about to really get in over our heads.”

Sarah clapped her hands and jumped up and down. “Hire me! I’m laid off, and I need a job. Plus, I was thinking of looking into a career change anyway. I’m still working on figuring out the details of that. I love counseling, but I’m pretty burnt out. However, I’ve always dreamed of working at a quaint B&B and getting to know all of the guests who come to stay.
